A week gives you what to gather, one change at home and one thing to observe. It starts with four short questions.
Readiness signs
Signs to look for, not a checklist to pass.

- Can hold two items at once
What to gather
Six to eight pairs of clean socks in a basket
How to present it
Show it slowly and in silence. Your hands are the lesson.
- 1Tip the socks onto the floor or a low table and spread them out.
- 2Pick one sock up, hold it, then look until you find its pair. Put the two together and set them aside.
- 3Do this twice, then hand the next sock to your child.
What to say — and what to avoid
Say
- This one. Where is the other one like it?
- They go back in the drawer when they are all found.
Avoid
- Wrong one
- Hurry up, I need to finish this
Control of error
A pair either matches or it does not, and your child can see it.
What to observe
Take these into the next cycle rather than judging the session.
- Do they compare before choosing?
- Do they stay until the basket is empty?
- Do they ask to do it next wash day?
Simplify or extend
If it's too hard
Use four pairs with strongly different colours.
Once it's mastered
Let them fold each pair together and put them away in the drawer.
